Lemon Cottage - Self Catering on the Roseland Peninsula

Lemon Cottage is a delightful Cornish cottage just outside the hamlet of Philleigh on the Roseland Peninsula. Originally built in 1836 it was a Wesleyan Chapel until the congregations dwindled, it was then split into two farm cottages, one was allocated to Polmenna Farm. In recent years it has been modernised to make a family home.

David and Andy Thomas renovated it when they married and their children were brought up in the cottage. David farms Polmenna and has a dairy herd, they now live in the farmhouse which is just across the field from Lemon Cottage.

Lemon Cottage sleeps up to five adults, there is a cot too. Two bedrooms, one double bedded  and one twin bedded, look out on to beautiful countryside. The third bedroom has a single bed and overlooks the garden. Next to the bathroom is a large airing cupboard. The staircase is boxed in as is usual in old cottages.

Downstairs there is a large beamed kitchen complete with Aga, (as well as a conventional cooker and microwave). The kitchen is very well equipped with utensils for cooking, baking and ironing. In the good sized utility room is a second sink unit and washing machine, also plenty of room to hang wet washing to dry. The larder and a shower room and loo are off the utility room.

The kitchen runs into the dining area which is also light and airy. There’s a pine table and enough chairs for six, plus a high chair if it is needed.

The sitting room has a very comfortable sofa and chairs and is decorated to complement the character of a beamed room. The sideboard has board games and puzzles and there’s also a good selection of reading material, books as well as magazines. The open fireplace is just right for warm, cosy winter evenings.

If you have children there are plenty of toys, and for smaller ones as well as cots and highchairs we have two stair gates. Babysitting can be arranged but there will be a small extra charge for this service.

The garden has a picnic table, deck chairs, and a barbecue which is mobile so can be used either in the garden or on the patio outside the rear outside door. The garden gets the sun all day long and in the evenings and you can always find a sheltered spot if the wind is blowing.

Parking is immediately beside the cottage, two reasonably sized cars can park there and you can still close the gates.
